Frequently Asked Questions

How is my score determined?

The total number of correct answers determines your raw score, which is then scaled statistically to ensure that all versions of the exam are equal in difficulty and content. The scaled scores range from zero to 100.

How are passing scores determined?

The actual passing score is determined by a criterion-referenced procedure called the Angoff Modified Technique. In brief, experts in the agronomy field review the exam questions and evaluate them according to how successful a minimally competent candidate would be, which determines a minimum passing score.

When will my score be available?

Exam scores are mailed six weeks after the exam date.

If I call ASA, will they tell me my score over the phone?

No. Test scores are confidential and will be disclosed only BY MAIL sent to the original registrant. We cannot disclose scores or pass/fail status via fax, phone or email to ANYONE.

Will ASA send my scores to a different address or to anyone else?

Test scores are confidential and only released to the candidate and only to the address stated on the original application submitted to ASA.

If I need to retake the exam, how soon may I register?

Registration starts 3 months prior to the exam date and must be received 6 weeks prior to the exam date. Exam registration materials will automatically be sent to those who need to retake an exam. Exam registration materials are also available by contacting ASA at 608-273-8085, Fax: 608-273-2081, email: cca@agronomy.org, mail: ASA/CCA, 5585 Guilford Road, Madison, WI 53711-5801 or at www.certifiedcropadviser.org.
